What Motivates You To Write?

Only one question keeps coming to mind every time I hold a pen in my hand, or I sit down in front of that empty screen. What motivates me to write? I can easily say it is fun, I love to do it, I want to be published, etc… My motivation is to just get the stories and people out of my head. Yes, I am sick of having stories in my head that only I know about. I want others to spread the stories I daydream about.

I never knew there was so much power in a writer’s hands. One can make it rain, make it snow, or make it rain food from the sky. We have so many choices at our disposal. At times I do feel overwhelm. It’s a challenge choosing a few ideas to put on paper. I do it because I want others to see what I see through my eyes.

So what motivates you to write?

  1. The love of my characters - and they're constant hounding me to tell the world :) I feel almost a compulsion to sit and write. Especially if I have something in my head that I just can't get rid of. Great post!

  2. Hi Rene! Hey, you're back! I was having a hard time looking up blogs on my iPhone with Google reader so that's why I haven't been here. Found a new app that syncs with my reader so now I can see when you have a post up! Yay!

Anyway, I love how you say that writing can be overwhelming (I rarely hear proletariat say that it is overwhelming, but the truth is, it can be!). As writers we have the power to create. For me, I write because I like how words can be manipulated around to conjure up an image, a feeling, or forge a connection. I've always had a crazy imagination (even as a kid. My sis just reminded me the other day about how I did not just have ONE imaginary friend, I had an imaginary FAMILY. Lol!). Writing is also an outlet for me. An absolute expression of the inner workings of my mind and heart. I'm really a quiet person in real life (hard to believe, right? Because I'm so verbose online). But when I write, I know no boundaries. I feel free.

  3. Ok, my phone has a mind of it's own. I swear I did not write "proletariat". I know I wrote "people". Please forgive my phone's autocorrect feature. ;)

  4. L.J. I know that can't get something out of my head feeling. No matter how hard I try to just ignore what's there, it makes things worst. I do love the way how different actors in my head make themselves unique. I can't just ignore them.

Thanks for visiting my lonely blog again lol.

  5. Hey cherie! Okay you the first person I know who had an imaginary family while growing up. Amazing! Imagination seems to be one of the most overlooked skills when it comes to writing. But you have to tell me how old you were when you left your imaginary family!

    P.S.

You know I have the worst grammar and vocabulary skills in the world. You have the nerve to used a word I never heard before lol. I saw your second post and I had to still look it up. One day I will use it lol!

    Thanks for visiting!

  6. That's a great reason to write. I do it because I love stories and I love making the up and I want to share them. Pretty much the same as you, I think. :)

  7. Besides it being something I've wanted to do since I was a child, I want to write cause I can't find the stuff I want to read/watch out there. And it's the only mental thing that leaves me satisfied after hours of effort.

  9. Hey outofmargin! I too get that mental satisfaction after writing for hours. Nothing like looking back at the world you have created on paper! Thanks for visiting!

  10. Your motives are great and pure. My only motive is imagining someone sitting in their home and laughing at loud at something I wrote. THat is motive enough.

  11. Hey Cheeseboy! I have read your blog man time, and I have to say you make me laugh all the time. That is truly a great motive to have!

We all often hear that laughter is the best medicine. It is a dose of medicine I try to overdose on as often as I can. Thanks for visiting!

  12. Ah. Yes, I do like the power of building worlds and creating characters. :) But even more, it's an escape for me from daily routine. I'm motivated to write because I want to play in another world. Great post!

  13. Hey Anita! Where have you been? Writing is a wonderful escape from reality! Thanks for visiting and now I have to figure out what to post next!

I hate blogging, but I love hearing what's on people's mind. I love reading other people's blogs but often I am lost for words. Sorry for rambling people!
